Jonathan Majors is back on set for his first film in four years. This week, he’s filming an untitled action movie in South Carolina with The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend.
Directed by Kyle Rankin, who also wrote the screenplay, the plot details are under wraps. However, it is said to reflect the spirit of ’80s and ’90s action films like Red Dawn and Toy Soldiers, focusing on a group of teenagers uniting against invaders.
The producers include Ben Shapiro and Dallas Sonnier, who are known for their work in conservative media. This project follows their success with The Pendragon Cycle, a recent TV hit. Other producers on board are Travis Mills, Lillian Campbell, and Sydney Aucreman.
Majors was riding high after major roles in films like Creed III and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but faced setbacks when he was found guilty of assault in 2023. Since then, he’s been working to revive his career, also gearing up for a role in an upcoming thriller called Merciless.
Interestingly, The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend have built a reputation for helping “canceled” actors find new opportunities. They previously gave roles to Armie Hammer and Gina Carano, both of whom had faced public backlash.
The movie project sees Caleb Robinson and Mike Richards as executive producers, with Majors also contributing as a producer. Behind the scenes, Kristopher Kimlin will serve as cinematographer, while David Guglielmo is in charge of casting.
This film marks a reunion for Rankin with The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend, as he previously directed their film Run Hide Fight, which debuted at the Venice Film Festival in 2020.
Major companies in the entertainment industry are starting to take note of the rising trend of actors reclaiming their careers. With recent surveys showing that 62% of viewers are open to watching projects starring actors who have faced controversies, there’s a potential shift in audience sentiment.
As Majors aims to restore his standing, it’ll be interesting to see how this film impacts his journey and whether audiences will embrace his return.
