President Droupadi Murmu Takes Historic Flight in Indigenous LCH Prachand at Jaisalmer Airbase

Today, President Droupadi Murmu took a flight in the Indian-made Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) ‘Prachand’ at Air Force Station Jaisalmer. This flight showcases her strong connection with India’s defense systems.

The flight lasted about 25 minutes in a two-aircraft formation. President Murmu was in the lead helicopter with Group Captain Nayan Shantilal Bahua, while Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh and Group Captain A. Mahendra flew in the second helicopter. They flew over the beautiful Gadisar Lake and the historic Jaisalmer Fort, even engaging a simulated tank target during their mission.

This sortie continues President Murmu’s trend of flying with the Indian Air Force. Earlier this year, she flew in a Sukhoi-30 MKI, and in 2025, she flew in a Rafale fighter jet. This hands-on approach highlights her commitment to understanding the country’s military capabilities.

After landing, the President shared her feelings in the visitors’ book. She expressed pride in India’s defense advancements and congratulated the Indian Air Force and the team at Jaisalmer for organizing the successful flight.

Later today, she will attend the Indian Air Force’s Exercise Vayu Shakti. This event is a significant display of the IAF’s readiness and showcases the increasing strength of India’s homegrown defense industry. According to recent reports, indigenous defense production is on the rise, contributing to over 60% of the Indian military’s requirements.

As India focuses on self-reliance in defense, such engagements by leadership boost morale and demonstrate confidence in the country’s capabilities. This trend also resonates widely, as social media discussions reflect strong public interest in India’s progress in defense technology.
