LUNENBURG — The Lunenburg Community Food Pantry is on the lookout for about 3,500 to 4,000 square feet of space after being asked to leave the TC Passios building. This move is crucial for continuing their essential services without a hitch.
The Food Pantry has put out an appeal. They’re asking the community if anyone knows of available spaces. This could be empty commercial buildings, unused warehouses, or even land for a future facility.
At a Select Board meeting on February 10, Town Manager Jennifer Warren mentioned the town aims to have various groups, including the Food Pantry, out of the building before July 1, 2026. The plan is to decommission the building before the winter of 2026-2027 to save on operating costs that can reach $120,000 annually.
The Pantry expressed its gratitude to the town for providing space since October 2021. The community’s generosity, from volunteers to local businesses, has made a significant impact. “The appreciation from our neighbors is felt daily,” they shared.
Every week, the Pantry distributes around 3,000 pounds of food. They collaborate with the Worcester County Food Bank, receive donations from Hannaford three times a week, and benefit from drives organized by local residents and schools.
Relocating the pantry involves considerable challenges. Moving refrigeration units, storage, and food supplies within the given timeline is no small feat. Yet, with community support, they believe a smooth transition is possible.
