Discover Ola-Ola: Savor Fresh Flavors at Carmel Market in Tel Aviv | The Jerusalem Post

We first stumbled upon Olà-Olà in Tel Aviv’s Carmel Market three years ago, right after it opened its doors. Run by Or Shabtai and chef Shaked Pahima, the dairy restaurant has recently refreshed its menu while keeping some old favorites.

On our visit during the lunch hour, we noticed the usually buzzing Carmel Market was surprisingly quiet, even though it’s a century-old landmark.

Inside, the restaurant had a fresh look this year. We admired its design: colorful glass bottles on one wall, rough gray walls, and a stylish wooden ceiling. Then, it was time to dig into the menu.

Idan, our waiter, was everywhere at once—super helpful and attentive.

Our first dish was fresh focaccia served warm with olive oil and balsamic vinegar (NIS 39). It was so good that we had to resist the temptation to eat too much.

Next came bruschetta featuring tuna ceviche with a touch of mayo (NIS 78). Eating raw fish was easy here, knowing that Carmel Market is famous for its fresh seafood.

Three more starters arrived: soft flute-shaped bread topped with raw red drum and za’atar, flat frena bread with raw fish, radish, arugula, and aioli, and amberjack sashimi resting on mashed avocado and crispy basil. Each dish was not only beautifully presented but also a delight in taste.

Then came a salad sprinkled with feta cheese and a decorative touch of avocado and fresh cream (NIS 67). I won’t even guess the calorie count!

For the main event, my friend opted for the sea bass, perfectly fried and served with colorful purees of red and green peppers, along with buttery mashed potatoes (NIS 179). I chose the Truffle Cream Pasta—tagliatelle with portobello mushrooms and truffles (NIS 89). Simply put, it was amazing.

Though I was inclined to skip dessert, the allure of crème brûlée was too strong. On a bed of pistachio crumbs, it was as good as expected (NIS 55). My friend enjoyed a classic bread pudding with chocolate sauce and ice cream (NIS 63).

We left Olà-Olà feeling satisfied. It’s clear that the restaurant has matured and gained confidence over its three years.

Now, guests can enjoy evening entertainment too, featuring a DJ, belly dancers, and darbuka players from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
