Excitement is building in northern KwaZulu-Natal as the Prince Buthelezi Mall gets ready to open in Empangeni. Set to launch in late April 2026, this new shopping center aims to offer convenience and a lively shopping experience to the local community.
After four years of planning and 15 months of building, the mall is designed to make life easier for everyone. It will host around 90 shops, including popular retail chains, grocery stores, restaurants, and unique boutique shops, many of which are new to Empangeni. Whether you’re looking to buy groceries, new clothes, or enjoy a meal, the mall aims to be a one-stop destination.
Hermann Stassen, from Moolman Group, emphasized that the mall is built with the community in mind. “We want to improve daily life and quality of living for people in the area,” he said.
Spanning about 37,000 square meters, the mall includes ample parking and significant upgrades to surrounding roads. Local taxi services have also been accommodated with a dedicated taxi rank to make transportation easy. During construction, over 2,000 jobs were created, with many more expected once the stores open.
Retail Director Sonke Moolman Pautz expressed enthusiasm about the new shopping options. “This mall brings fresh brands and experiences that haven’t been available here, creating a modern space for shopping and socializing.”
Designed to blend with the natural beauty of its surroundings, the mall features greenery and comfortable seating areas. There will be free Wi-Fi, restrooms, and a kid-friendly play area, ensuring a pleasant experience for all shoppers.
As the opening day nears, the team has begun engaging with the community through school tours and behind-the-scenes preparations, building excitement for the launch.
Prince Buthelezi Mall is set to become a significant part of daily life in Empangeni, offering greater choices for shopping and dining while fostering community connections. This new development reflects a shift toward modern shopping experiences in the area, bringing both convenience and joy to the community.
With a focus on creating a welcoming environment, the mall aims not just to be a place for transactions but a hub for social interactions among residents.
