Jimmy Fallon recently had the U.S. Olympic hockey stars on his show, making for an entertaining evening. He teased Jack Hughes for losing a tooth just before scoring a crucial goal in overtime, while giving a big shout-out to Hilary Knight, who won gold in her fifth Olympic Games.
Knight and the Hughes brothers—Jack and Quinn—appeared just two days after their surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live.” When asked which was more nerve-racking, the Olympics or SNL, Knight picked SNL without thinking twice. She shared a charming memory of telling her mother at age five that she wanted to play hockey in the Olympics, even before women’s hockey was included.
Fallon shared a letter Jack wrote to himself ahead of the 2019 NHL draft. In it, he dreamt of representing the U.S. in the Olympics and winning gold medals—something that became a reality.
The brothers also joked about their time together in the athletes’ village. Jack recalled getting high-sticked in the mouth during the gold medal game, with Quinn reassuring him that it wasn’t so bad. “It’s only chipped,” Quinn said, keeping Jack’s spirits high in a tense moment.
Jack promised Fallon that the gap-toothed smile wouldn’t become his signature look, despite its storybook charm. Fallon commented, “That is the most hockey thing ever!”
Knight’s journey in Milan was particularly special; she not only secured her second Olympic gold but also got engaged to U.S. speedskater Brittany Bowe during the Games. Fallon quipped about Knight’s choice to propose on a grate instead of the grass, prompting Knight to admit she enjoys high-pressure scenarios.
At 36, Knight played through a knee injury, revealing her struggles on “CBS Mornings.” “It was a mental and physical challenge,” she said, crediting her support team for helping her perform.
She tied the final game against Canada just minutes before regulation ended. However, upon returning to her PWHL team, Knight and others found themselves on long-term injured reserve.
These moments capture not just the thrill of Olympic competition but also the personal stories of determination and triumph behind them. For more on the Winter Olympics, check out the official page here.
