Celebrating Local Environmental Heroes: Introducing Our New Award Scheme

Residents and groups in Three Rivers can now become Environmental Champions through a new award program. This initiative, launched by the Three Rivers District Council, aims to highlight those making a difference in sustainability and climate action.

The Environmental Champions Award has four categories:

• Young Environmental Champion: For individuals under 18 living in Three Rivers.
• Adult Environmental Champion: For adults 18 and over in the area.
• Community Environmental Champion: For local groups, schools, and charities.
• Business Environmental Champion: For businesses based in Three Rivers.

This award recognizes various projects, such as those that protect wildlife, reduce waste, improve energy use, or promote eco-friendly transportation. Winners will receive a prize and public recognition during the Great Big Green Week event at Watersmeet Theatre on June 4, 2026.

The push for these awards stems from feedback during a climate change consultation. Council member Cllr Jon Tankard noted the strong desire from residents to celebrate local efforts in sustainability. “These awards will highlight the unsung heroes making Three Rivers a greener place,” he said.

Applications can be easily submitted via an online form on the council’s website. The deadline is April 30, 2026.
