Google is rolling out an exciting update for the Pixel Watch that makes payments easier. With a feature called “express pay,” users can pay at retail terminals just by tapping their watch. This handy option will be available on the Pixel Watch 2 and later models.
Think of it like the “express mode” on the Apple Watch, which lets you use your payment cards without unlocking your device. However, for Google’s new feature, you need to opt in, and your watch must be unlocked to make a payment.
Previously, Pixel Watch users had to double-tap the crown to access the Wallet app to pay, which could be a hassle. Google already allowed payments for transportation without unlocking the app, but this new feature simplifies everyday shopping.
The Pixel Watch 2 will also get new features that enhance its connection to Pixel phones. One will automatically lock your phone if you move out of range, and another will alert you if you leave your phone behind. These will work best with Pixel 8 and newer devices.
To make security smoother, Google is improving identity checks. If your watch is connected to your phone, you can perform sensitive tasks, like disabling “Find My Device,” with a simple PIN. This upgrade is available on Pixel Watch 3, Pixel Watch 4, and the Pixel 8 Pro.
Additionally, Google’s March update introduces the Find Hub feature for the original Pixel Watch and other Wear OS watches. It also adds new one-handed gestures for the Pixel Watch 3 and expands the Satellite SOS feature on the Pixel Watch 4, allowing access in more locations, such as Canada and Europe.
These advancements not only make tech smoother but also enhance convenience for users. As tech expert Lisa Smith points out, “Features like express pay and phone tracking make everyday life easier and more efficient.”
