Exciting Doubleheader Launches 2026 Women’s Tennis Season at Bowie State University!

BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State women’s tennis team is set to kick off its 2026 season with an exciting doubleheader on Saturday, March 7. They’ll face Elizabeth City State at 10 a.m. and Shippensburg at 4 p.m. at their home courts.

This season promises new energy as head coach Todd Byrom enters his third year. He’s introducing four fresh talents: Asia Johnson from Mitchellville, Mil’lanni Marte from Waldorf, Daisy Pentorn from Odenton, and Payton Swinon also from Odenton. These newcomers are eager to make a mark this season.

Leading the team is Verneice Herndon, a dedicated captain from Washington, D.C. She’s been with the Bulldogs for three years and aims to elevate the team’s performance. Also on the roster is Nakari Blunt from Suffolk, Va., who made waves last year as the 2025 CIAA Rookie of the Year. She had a strong freshman year, winning four singles matches while often playing in the No. 2 spot.

Adding to the coaching staff is Jeri Ingram, a former standout at the University of Maryland and an experienced professional player. With eight years on the WTA tour, her insights are sure to benefit the team.

Fan engagement plays a big role in sports today. Social media buzz shows fans are excited about the new players and coaching changes. Platforms like Twitter and Instagram are alive with support for the Bulldogs as they prepare for their season.
