Taru, which means “beehive” in Estonian, is a vibrant hub for sharing ideas and knowledge. It’s where the public sector, scientists, businesses, and communities come together to tackle important environmental questions.
The Taru complex welcomes everyone—those who want to learn, explore, or simply enjoy a beautiful space. It’s a place for curiosity and collaboration.
Almost a third of Taru is open for visitors. You can wander through the museum, join events, eat at the restaurant, or relax in a green setting. The aim is to create an environment where knowledge meets creativity, sparking new questions and ideas.
Taru emphasizes harmony between people and nature. It’s about making sustainable living more accessible in Estonia.
As a forward-thinking investment, Taru also prioritizes nature education, quality urban spaces, and eco-friendly construction.
A New Home for Estonia’s Nature
The Estonian Museum of Natural History will be the main attraction at Taru. With larger, modern spaces, the museum encourages visitors to explore nature and its connection to humanity in fresh ways.
Its permanent exhibit, *The Art of Coexistence*, showcases the relationship between humans and nature, featuring Estonia’s diverse landscapes and species. The displays highlight nature’s intricacies and how we can live more harmoniously with it.
In addition to the museum, Taru will host temporary exhibits, events, conferences, and discussions. It’s a gathering place for learning and discovery.
Leading the Way in Environmental Development
Taru is home to key organizations focused on environmental and spatial development: the Estonian Museum of Natural History, the Environmental Board, the Estonian Environment Agency, and others. This collaboration facilitates knowledge sharing and helps provide clear environmental information to the public.
With around 570 professionals working there, Taru aims to shape a better future for both nature and urban spaces. The new building will also save the state up to €700,000 in administrative costs each year.
Importantly, Taru will offer space for eco-conscious businesses and non-profits. If you’re interested in learning more, reach out to Taru’s director, Riina Roosipuu, at [email protected].
In a world increasingly focused on sustainability, Taru stands as a beacon of collaboration and innovation, demonstrating how we can reshape our living environments for the better.
