Cynosure WelFAS Ltd has introduced an innovative AI-powered app to help Nigerians take control of their health. Launched in Lagos with the theme “The Future of Total Wellness and Fitness Transformation in Nigeria,” this app combines fitness tracking, calorie counting, medical consultations, and AI-driven insights all in one place.
Ogbe Omoruyi, the founder of WelFAS and a plastic surgeon, emphasized that the app is a tool for personal wellness. He pointed out that adopting a healthy lifestyle can actually reverse conditions like hypertension and diabetes. The app allows users to scan food items to monitor calorie intake, set daily goals, and even receive personalized meal plans that support sustainable weight loss.
Omoruyi believes that viewing weight management as a long-term lifestyle commitment is crucial. Consistency and discipline, according to him, are key factors for success. The app also features AI to field health questions, analyze lab results, and arrange virtual consultations with certified healthcare professionals. This is particularly important in Nigeria, where access to doctors can be limited.
Ernest Onuchukwu commended the launch of this digital wellness platform, noting how it reflects the need for innovation in modern healthcare. He stated that digital tools are reshaping healthcare by improving access and early detection of health risks. Platforms like WelFAS can expand access to health education, allowing individuals to incorporate wellness practices into their daily lives.
Derrick Nwafor from i-Fitness Center pointed out some alarming statistics: Nigeria’s population has surpassed 227 million, with many young people under 18. He cited the World Health Organization, stating that lifestyle diseases cause about 29% of deaths in Nigeria. With only a small fraction of people having health insurance, the burden falls heavily on families. He expressed the need for preventative healthcare, arguing that digital innovations can bridge the gaps in access and make healthcare more sustainable.
AI advisor Obumneme John-Kennedy Ortuanya shared advice on nutrition, encouraging people to consume food in appropriate quantities to meet their nutritional needs. Despite being aware of wellness issues, he believes many still struggle to implement those practices in their daily lives.
As a highlight, actress Kate Henshaw was announced as the brand ambassador for the WelFAS app, bringing a familiar face to promote this exciting new journey towards healthier living in Nigeria.
The emphasis on technology in healthcare is a shift seen globally, and as health systems adapt to these changes, tools like WelFAS could define the future of wellness in Nigeria.
