Camarillo, California – The Lehigh women’s golf team kicked off their spring break in style, scoring 304 at the MSU SoCal Spring Invitational held at Sterling Hills Golf Club.
Sophomore Alana Hall led the charge with an impressive round of 72, tying for the top spot among individual players. Hall’s performance was notable for her remarkable back nine, where she made five birdies, finishing with a score of 31.
Following closely was sophomore Reese Hannon, who shot a solid 75, placing her tied for 14th. Hannon also showcased her skills with three birdies and an eagle on the par-4 12th hole.
First-year player Alisia Ren ended the day with a score of 78, putting her in a tie for 40th, while junior Stefania Fedun shot a 79, landing her in a tie for 50th. Rounding out the team was first-year Bridget Yu, who achieved two birdies but finished with an 83, tying for 72nd.
In the team standings, Nebraska led with a score of 11 over par. They and a few other teams were unable to finish their rounds due to darkness. CSU Bakersfield was five strokes behind in second, with Notre Dame close behind in third. Lehigh and Western Michigan were tied for fourth place.
The tournament continues Monday with the second round at Sterling Hills Golf Club.
Interestingly, women’s golf participation has been on the rise, with a 14% increase in players in the past decade according to a report from the National Golf Foundation. This trend reflects a growing interest in the sport, partly fueled by increased visibility and support for women’s athletics.
