Jennifer expressed their wish to back organizations fighting hunger in the community. “We want to support those already working hard to meet local needs,” she said. The organizations depend heavily on donations and volunteers, so she urged community members to lend a hand wherever they can.
Richard highlighted the growing awareness of food insecurity in the area. “You can’t just sit back and hope the situation will change,” he said. This donation continues their long history of supporting local causes as food assistance demands increase.
Meals on Wheels will use the $15,000 to expand its delivery services to homebound seniors across the county. Coordinator Beth Whyte noted that this funding will provide around 2,500 meals, equating to daily lunches for about seven seniors for an entire year. This donation also allows the program to accept more participants who were previously on waiting lists. “It’s heartbreaking when someone needs help, and we can’t provide it,” she shared.
At Manna Pantry, the $25,000 will enhance food distribution and expand its successful mobile pantry program. Executive Director Julia Harris emphasized the importance of this funding, calling it “transformative.” It will help increase access to fresh protein options and reach communities with limited grocery access. The pantry plans to roll out six new mobile sites across the county to serve residents who face transportation challenges.
The Cochran’s contribution aims to inspire others to give back. Community support is crucial, especially as food insecurity remains a pressing issue in many areas. According to recent research, nearly 10% of households in the U.S. faced food insecurity in 2022, underscoring the importance of local efforts like those in Mecosta County.
