Local dining and entertainment are thriving here. But there’s a push to attract a younger crowd to help keep the city lively. Corbin LeMaster, who manages Chase Sports Bar, emphasizes the downtown area’s importance. He said, “Downtown is always a focal point in any town. When there’s action down here, everyone benefits.”
LeMaster highlights the rise in food culture, saying, “Jackson is becoming known for its food.” Yet, he believes there’s room for improvement, especially in retaining younger residents. “It’s great to attract anyone, but keeping younger people around is key,” he remarked.
To explore this, I spoke with City Manager Jonathan Greene about efforts to make Jackson appealing to the youth. Greene pointed out the need for more recreational activities and amenities. “We need third places—spaces where people can gather outside of work or home,” he said.
LeMaster appreciates the city’s dedication to growth. “There’s a sense of care from the community,” he noted, reflecting a newfound pride in Jackson. When I asked him if he feels proud to call Jackson home, he replied confidently, “Absolutely.”

A 2022 report from the Urban Land Institute found that nearly 60% of millennials prefer living in walkable neighborhoods with strong social networks. This trend highlights a shift in how younger generations view their living environments, making Jackson’s initiatives even more timely.
