Florida Atlantic University Athletics: Celebrating Two Owls with American Honorable Mentions!

Florida Atlantic University’s softball team is shining this season, with two players earning spots on the American Conference Honorable Mention list. Redshirt junior outfielder Kylie Hammonds and graduate pitcher Ainsley Lambert have both made impressive contributions to the team.

This recognition marks Hammonds’ second accolade in her college career and Lambert’s fourth. They helped the Owls secure a solid 3-1 record, including a series win over Charlotte as they kicked off their American Conference play.

Hammonds has been a standout both at the plate and in the field. She reached base 13 times out of 17 tries, racking up seven hits, eight runs, three home runs, four RBIs, five walks, and even a hit-by-pitch. Her impressive slugging percentage of 1.545 showcases her offensive prowess. Notably, she homered three times in just two days, including a leadoff home run at the start of conference play, which marked her first multi-homer game. Currently, she leads the conference in home runs with seven and has recorded 29 runs this season. Defensively, she was strong, achieving 10 putouts from centerfield and making some fantastic plays, including robbing at least one opponent of a home run.

On the pitching side, Lambert has been a game-changer. She played a critical relief role, appearing in three out of four games, all victories for the Owls. Over 7.2 innings, she faced 27 batters, allowing no runs and only three hits while striking out six. This weekend, she also secured a save, giving her the top spot in the American Conference with four saves this season. Impressively, she is the only eligible pitcher in the conference with a batting average against her below .200, currently sitting at .170.

In the upcoming days, the Owls will face East Carolina at Joan Joyce Field in Boca Raton. Keep an eye on this talented team as they continue their season.
