Starting around 6 a.m. Wednesday, the forecast predicts two to three centimeters of freezing rain. This will affect areas from Gatineau to Maniwaki and even towards Montreal. The worst of the freezing rain is expected between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday. Beyond Gatineau, others in western Quebec and parts of northeastern Ontario could see one to two centimeters as well. It’s important to note that not all ice buildup will match the amount of rain forecasted. Communities like Shawville and Fort-Coulonge may face outages, so residents there might want to reconsider any travel plans for the day.
Eastern Ontario, including areas north of Highway 7, can expect a mix of rain and freezing rain, especially further south. Rainfall in communities like Belleville, Brockville, Cornwall, and Kingston might reach 20 to 40 millimeters. Those venturing in these areas should remain cautious if they decide to travel.
Temperatures are predicted to hover around the freezing mark from Tuesday night through Thursday, making conditions icy and treacherous. The orange alert level, positioned in the middle of Environment Canada’s scale, warns of severe weather that can cause considerable disruption.
