Geno Smith is returning to where it all started for him in the NFL.
The Raiders are trading their two-time Pro Bowl quarterback to the New York Jets. Reports say that Las Vegas is sending a 2026 seventh-round pick along with Smith. In return, they’ll receive a sixth-round pick, moving up from No. 228 to No. 208 in the upcoming draft.
To help make the trade happen, the Raiders will cover most of Smith’s salary. This means the Jets will pay just above the league minimum for him.
“I’m excited to connect with my new teammates and coaches,” Smith said after the trade news broke. “It feels like coming full circle.”
The trade won’t be official until the new league year begins on Wednesday.
Las Vegas had a tough season with Smith. He faced huge challenges, getting sacked 55 times—the most in the league—and throwing 17 interceptions in just 15 games. The team struggled with a record of 3-14 under coach Pete Carroll. With plans to draft Indiana quarterback and 2025 Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza, the Raiders decided to move on from Smith.
