Misty Copeland has responded to Timothée Chalamet after his comments about ballet and opera. In a recent panel for Aveeno, she pointed out that she participated in promoting his film Marty Supreme, highlighting the importance of her art form.
“It’s interesting that he asked me to be part of promoting Marty Supreme, given the respect for my art,” she mentioned, referencing an Instagram post from November 2025 where she wore a jacket branded with the film’s name.
Copeland emphasized that while ballet and opera may not be mainstream, they’ve been part of culture for over 400 years. “Just because it’s not as popular doesn’t mean it isn’t relevant,” she said. Her mission has always been to introduce more people to these art forms, showcasing their significance in communities.
She also pointed out that Chalamet’s opportunities as an actor are intertwined with the historical relevance of ballet and opera. “Every medium has its space; we shouldn’t compare them,” she added.
Chalamet and Copeland are set to appear at the Oscars on March 15, with Copeland performing for an Oscar-nominated song while Chalamet is nominated for Best Actor for Marty Supreme.
