Emily Pateuk, representing Georgia Electric Membership Corp, voiced worries about the safety of workers who maintain electrical grids. She insisted that these concerns are crucial and delayed votes on related bills.

Experts believe that safety issues can be managed effectively. Ken Boyce from UL Solutions explained that while plug-in solar systems generate power, the risk of electric shock is a valid point. To address these safety concerns, UL Solutions is creating testing and certification programs for manufacturers.

In Germany, safety has not been an issue even with widespread use of plug-in solar systems. Reports indicate that there haven’t been significant safety incidents, showing that these technologies can be managed responsibly.

Finances and Environmental Impact

The average price for traditional solar panel installations can exceed $20,000. Comparatively, plug-in solar setups can cost just a few hundred dollars and generate enough power to handle appliances like refrigerators or microwaves. Over time, users may recover their initial investment within a few years through reduced electricity bills.

With many still relying on fossil fuels for their electricity, these solar panels offer a cleaner alternative. Each kilowatt produced by a plug-in solar panel helps reduce reliance on eco-unfriendly energy sources.

In Virginia, lawmakers are also on the verge of approving supportive legislation for plug-in solar, which could further accelerate adoption in the U.S.
