JACKSON, Miss. — The Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team achieved a strong 4-0 win against Jackson State at the Jackson State Tennis Courts.
The doubles competition kicked off with the No. 1 duo, Luca Bohlen and Yi-Ching Huang, winning 6-3. Pauline Bruns and Elena Thiel followed suit, clinching their match in a tense tiebreaker, 7-5. The match between Sophia Baranov and Clemence Butavand was left unfinished, but they were leading 6-5 when the first point was secured.
In singles play, Bruns dominated her match, winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. Huang also shined at No. 2, taking her first set 6-0 and winning the second 6-2 to secure another point. Bohlen sealed the victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win from the No. 3 position. The matches of Baranov, Butavand, and Thiel were left unfinished, each having won at least one set.
This win marks the fourth sweep for the Governors this season after previous victories over Southern Indiana, Belmont, and Saint Louis. Bohlen added her 12th and 13th wins of the season, including her seventh singles win this spring. Bruns and Thiel’s partnership also stands out with five wins together, just one behind the top pair, Baranov and Butavand, who have six.
Looking ahead, Austin Peay will host Bethel for their next match on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Governors Tennis Courts in Clarksville.
