Community Rallies for Local Restaurant Owner After Serious Accident
A Sanford family is leaning heavily on their community after an accident involving Shantell Williams, the owner of Shantell’s Just Until Restaurant & Lounge. She was injured in a motorcycle crash during Daytona’s Bike Week.
Her daughter, Sadiqa Muhammed, recalls the emotional night. “We were in tears,” she said, describing how she and her siblings struggled to cope. Williams was seriously hurt on March 4, and her recovery will be long and difficult.
Doctors had to place several plates and rods in her body. “She has two plates in each shoulder, rods in her arms, and a shattered breastplate,” Muhammed explained. Despite the intense pain, Williams maintains her spirit. “She even joked with the cop at the scene,” Muhammed added.
Medical professionals predict that recovery could take weeks for each broken bone. Williams can’t put weight on her legs for about eight weeks. Facing daunting medical bills, the family has set up a GoFundMe to help. The response from the community has been overwhelming. “I knew she was loved, but this is more than I expected,” Muhammed said.
Local bikers have joined in the support, with 60 showing up one night. Their solidarity highlights the impact Williams has made in the community over the years. As she starts her journey to healing, the family remains grateful for the support and hope more people will lend a hand during this tough time.
