Southern Connecticut faced Minnesota State University, Mankato, in a tough match held in Space Coast, Florida. The Owls lost 8-5, marking their first defeat of the season. Now, they hold a record of 2-1, while Minnesota State improves to 8-10.

Giselle Delutri started for the Owls, pitching 4.1 innings, and allowing six runs on nine hits, with two strikeouts. Moira Collins followed in relief, throwing 2.2 innings, giving up two runs on four hits, also striking out two.

In terms of batting, Cheyenne LaTouche led with two RBIs, while Izzy Ingersoll hit a home run in her first game as an Owl. Olivia Young also contributed with an RBI.

The game unfolded dramatically. Minnesota took the lead early with a two-run home run, but the Owls quickly responded. Sofia Angiolini walked with bases loaded, scoring Karley Austin, bringing the score to 2-1. LaTouche then doubled, scoring both Brianna Pearson and Ingersoll, giving the Owls a brief 3-2 lead. However, the game took another turn in the fifth inning. The Mavericks found their rhythm, scoring four runs and taking the lead. They extended their advantage with two more runs from a home run, making the score 8-4.

The Owls weren’t done yet. In the bottom of the seventh, Ingersoll hit her home run, closing the gap to 8-5, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.
