Dharamshala: On Saturday, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan took the stage at the 9th Convocation of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh. He focused on the vital role of students and youth in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, which aims to transform India into a developed nation by the 100th anniversary of its independence.
Radhakrishnan stated that this ambitious goal hinges on economic growth, social inclusion, technological advances, environmental sustainability, and ethical leadership. He emphasized that young people are crucial in this journey, highlighting their potential to innovate and drive change.
He mentioned key initiatives like Startup India and Make in India, which create new opportunities for young innovators. Collaborations between higher education institutions and government—through joint research, shared resources, and academic exchanges—can enrich learning and contribute to a globally competitive education system, he added.
The university’s “Community Lab” initiative also drew praise. This program allows students and faculty to engage with local communities, giving students real-life insights into rural challenges. Radhakrishnan commended the university for its commitment to the National Education Policy 2020, which promotes Indian Knowledge Traditions, helping cultivate a fresh educational culture.
He noted the university’s efforts to translate works into regional languages, showcasing India’s rich intellectual heritage. Furthermore, he called for a drug-free campus, highlighting the adverse effects of drugs on youth and society. He encouraged students to use their education for social betterment, promoting the idea of putting the nation first—Rashtra Pratham.
At the end of the ceremony, over 700 students received degrees and medals, with a significant number being women. Out of 32 gold medalists, 23 were women, a clear sign of growing empowerment and contributions to the nation.
Interestingly, recent statistics reveal that women currently make up about 43% of the workforce in India, showing a positive trend toward gender equality in education and employment. This upliftment is crucial for the nation’s overall progress, as education plays a pivotal role in enhancing workforce participation.
As society looks forward to 2047, the focus on education and inclusive development will be crucial. Engaging young minds and fostering innovation could very well be the keys to realizing a developed India.
