Low-Key Meeting Spots in Los Angeles
Moving to Los Angeles often comes with dreams of stardom, but sometimes all you need is a good spot for a meeting. After ten years here, I’ve found a few places that fit the bill: they’re quiet, spacious, and serve great coffee or food.
When looking for a meeting place, I prioritize comfort and quality. If a meeting spot doesn’t serve food I enjoy, I’ll usually suggest a different location from my list. Most of my meetings happen in the Valley or east of La Brea, as that’s where a lot of the industry activity takes place.
Here are some of my favorite spots:
Basecamp Dinette – Burbank
Nestled at the foot of Griffith Park, Basecamp Dinette offers a unique vibe. You might even have to pause for horses crossing the street! The cozy café serves fantastic coffee and delightful food. I love the breakfast burrito or their giant morning bun. The patio here is spacious and shaded, perfect for warmer days.
The Trails Cafe – Griffith Park
This rustic spot is along the Ferndell Nature Trail. It’s a charming place to grab coffee or sandwiches after a hike. I highly recommend the chickpea salad sandwich and their refreshing iced tea. The surrounding area offers picnic spots for those who prefer an outdoor meeting.
Spoke Bicycle Cafe – Frogtown
Adjacent to the LA River bike path, Spoke Bicycle Cafe is vibrant and inviting. The atmosphere is relaxed, with a mix of bikers and locals. Their Trystero coffee is a highlight, and the breakfast burrito is particularly tasty. It’s a great place to unwind and chat.
Quat LA – Glassell Park
Quat LA stands out for its excellent coffee. This sunny courtyard accommodates plenty of people without feeling crowded. The pastries from their in-house bakery, Fondry, are a must-try. They focus on high-quality, light roast coffee, making this a perfect spot for serious conversations over a cup of joe.
All Seasons Brewing Company – Mid-Wilshire
Housed in an old tire shop, this brewery is a favorite among industry folks. They serve hoppy beers and tasty Mexican food from Chicas Tacos. The spacious layout is great for casual meetings, though parking can be tricky. Just be aware that if someone mentions parking, they might still be at home!
The Bigger Picture
These localities represent a shift in how we gather in the workplace. Data from recent surveys shows that outdoor meetings or informal settings have become increasingly popular in post-pandemic life. People are prioritizing comfort and ambiance in professional settings.
In your next meeting, try to find a location that fosters good conversation while providing quality food or drink. You might be surprised how a simple change of scenery can enhance productivity.
