Recently, a norovirus outbreak affected nearly 10% of passengers and crew aboard the Star Princess, a Princess cruise ship sailing in the Caribbean. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 153 people fell ill, including 104 passengers and 49 crew members.
The ship was on a week-long trip that concluded on Sunday. Those affected experienced symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting. In response, Princess Cruises carried out extensive cleaning and isolated sick individuals until they could disembark. They also coordinated with the CDC for advice on handling the situation.
The CDC stepped in after receiving reports about the outbreak through its Vessel Sanitation Program. Their team visited the ship to investigate. Interestingly, passengers and crew were back on board promptly, as the ship left for a new voyage shortly after returning to Fort Lauderdale.
