New Delhi: Amid rising tensions due to ongoing US-Israel attacks on Iran, India has begun repatriating its students from the region. On Sunday, over 70 Indian students safely returned home through Dubai.
Most of these students are from Jammu and Kashmir, studying at various medical universities in Iran. Upon landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport, they were set to continue their journey home. As conditions worsened, the Indian Embassy—working closely with the Government of India—stepped in to ensure their safe evacuation.
Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan, National Vice President of the All India Medical Students Association, has noted that around 1,000 to 1,200 Indian students remain in Iran, many attending Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Given the recent missile strikes and escalating violence in the city, their situation has become particularly dangerous.
Khan emphasized that the Indian Embassy acted quickly, moving students from the most affected areas to safer locations. The government also arranged secure accommodations, like hotels and safe houses, for those still in Iran. This has helped ease some of the anxiety felt by students and their families.
As of now, many students and their loved ones are following updates closely. Social media has become a platform for sharing experiences and gathering support, with families expressing both relief and concern. The situation highlights the broader implications of international conflicts on young students far from home.
