Terriers Triumph: Boston University Dominates Brown and UMass Lowell in Thrilling Victory!

BOSTON – The Boston University softball team kicked off their home series in style this Saturday. With a stellar .552 on-base percentage and an impressive pitching performance from senior Kasey Ricard, the Terriers triumphed over Brown and UMass Lowell.

The Terriers (16-10) dominated Brown with a 17-0 victory, wrapping things up early in just five innings. They followed that up with a solid 7-3 win against UMass Lowell. In total, BU racked up 22 hits and allowed only seven from their opponents.

Junior Kylie Doherty stood out at the plate, going 4-for-6 with two home runs, seven RBIs, and four runs scored. Seniors Megan Coyle and Brooke Deppiesse, along with sophomore Camryn Lyons, each had three RBIs. Freshman Madolyn Coupal also got in on the action, reaching home plate four times.

On the mound, Ricard notched her 11th win of the season, tying the program record for career victories at 85. She struck out nine batters while allowing just three hits across both games. Classmate Haley Ganino helped close out the first game, securing the shutout and later contributing to the win against UMass Lowell.

Game Highlights:

  • Game 1: BU 17, Brown 0
Ricard started strong, striking out the side in the first inning. Doherty kicked off the scoring with a home run, and the team followed with a flurry of runs. They added five runs in one inning, showcasing their offensive might.

  • Game 2: BU 7, UMass Lowell 3
The Terriers took an early lead thanks to Kline’s single and Doherty’s RBI groundout. They capitalized on UML’s mistakes to extend their advantage. Despite UML threatening in the fourth inning, BU held them off with solid defense.

Interesting Insights:

  • BU’s 17 runs marked the highest home run total since 2021 against Lafayette. It also stands as their largest home victory margin, a record previously held since 2010.
  • Ricard is just six strikeouts away from hitting the 800 mark in her career, an impressive milestone in both BU and Patriot League history.
  • Doherty’s two homers bring her total to 30, just two shy of the program record.

Looking ahead, the Terriers will host another tripleheader on Sunday. They’ll face Brown and UMass Lowell again, starting at 10:30 a.m., giving fans another chance to support their team.

As the season progresses, BU looks to build on this momentum, and with players like Ricard and Doherty shining, the future looks bright.
