Men’s Basketball Team Secures Spot in NIT: What This Means for the Season!

Exciting news for Seattle University! For the first time since 1957, the men’s basketball team will compete in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT). They’ll host St. Thomas on Tuesday, March 17, at the Redhawk Center, with the game starting at 7 p.m. Catch it on ESPN+.

This season has been a standout for the Redhawks. With a record of 20-13, this marks their fourth 20-win season in the last five years under Coach Chris Victor. The team wrapped up their first season in the West Coast Conference tied for fifth place and made it to the third round of the WCC Championship.

Historically, Seattle U has competed well in postseason tournaments, boasting a 7-4 record across five appearances, including four College Basketball Invitationals (CBI) and one CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT). Just last year, they brought home the CBI title, triumphing in four games within five days in Daytona Beach, Florida.

For the game, Seattle U students, faculty, and staff can get free tickets at the Redhawk Center on game day by showing a valid ID, while supplies last. General public tickets can be obtained by reaching out to the Athletics Ticket Office at seattleutickets@seattleu.edu or calling 206-398-GOSU.

This historic achievement isn’t just a win for the team; it reflects the growing support for college basketball in Seattle. A recent survey indicated that interest in college sports is on the rise, with fans eager for local teams to succeed. Let’s cheer them on as they aim for victory!
