Boosting Connectivity: How State Support Can Help Expand the Vande Bharat Train Network

In a recent update, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed that as of March 12, 2026, Indian Railways is running 162 Vande Bharat Chair Car services. So far, only two Sleeper services are in operation.

The Vande Bharat trains are quite popular, boasting high occupancy rates. This success has led the government to encourage state administrations to support the rapid expansion of these train services nationwide.

These trains are modern marvels, designed to reach speeds of up to 160 km/h and capable of 180 km/h. They come equipped with advanced safety features, including KAVACH anti-collision technology, automatic plug doors, and enhanced fire safety systems. Each coach has improved hygiene measures, such as air disinfection using UV-C lamps.

Minister Vaishnaw emphasized, “Indian Railways is dedicated to providing affordable, quality services for everyone.” The increasing demand for Chair Car services has prompted the government to seek state collaboration for land acquisition and station improvements crucial for new routes.

Popular routes include New Delhi-Varanasi, Gandhinagar-Mumbai Central, and more, connecting major cities across India.

In terms of user response, social media is abuzz with positive feedback about the convenience and comfort of the Vande Bharat trains. Many commuters appreciate the punctuality and modern amenities. This trend reflects a growing expectation for efficiency in public transport.

Interestingly, a recent survey shows that 70% of railway passengers prefer faster and more comfortable trains over traditional options. This statistic highlights the need for industry innovation as passengers seek better travel experiences.
