Cycle Nova: How Villanova Students are Celebrating a Legacy While Promoting Heart Health

A student-led fundraiser in Villanova is making waves for heart health. On March 14, 2026, the organization Beat for Good held its first cycling event, Cycle Nova, to support the American Heart Association (AHA). The goal? To raise awareness and funds for vital cardiovascular research and community health initiatives.

Beat for Good is part of a national program known as the Heart Club, which empowers students to take action through fundraising, community service, and leadership development. Every dollar raised helps the AHA in its mission to improve heart health and prolong lives.

“Cycle Nova is an incredible way for us to come together and support a cause that impacts so many families,” said Anthony Garenani, one of Beat for Good’s founders. His inspiration comes from his father, Dr. Christopher Garenani, who unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack in 2008. This event not only honors his father’s memory but also focuses on a cause that resonates with Anthony and many others.

Along with his brother Michael at Cornell University, they started Beat for Good to carry on their father’s legacy. Dr. Garenani was known for his compassion and dedication to community health. Today, these brothers pursue pre-med studies while advocating for heart disease awareness, which is the number one cause of death globally.

According to the World Health Organization, cardiovascular diseases claim nearly 18 million lives each year. This staggering statistic emphasizes the urgent need for awareness and preventative measures. Events like Cycle Nova are crucial in shining a light on this critical issue.

As Beat for Good grows, it continues to transform personal loss into a powerful mission. Cycle Nova is just the beginning. Villanova students are working not only to support the AHA but also to foster a future where fewer families experience heart-related tragedies. Together, they’re building a community focused on health, hope, and change.

The American Heart Association has been a leading force for heart health for over a century, advocating for healthier communities and funding innovative research. With a network of over 35 million volunteers, they continue to work tirelessly to save lives. You can learn more about the AHA’s initiatives at heart.org and stroke.org.
