Yoo Jae-suk, Korea’s beloved comedian, has made history at the 2024 Seoul Broadcasting System Entertainment Awards by winning his 20th grand prize. This remarkable achievement sets him apart as the person with the most grand prizes across all major TV networks and the prestigious Baeksang Arts Awards.
During the ceremony, held in Sangam-dong, Seoul, SBS honored Yoo for his work on popular shows like “Running Man” and “Whenever Possible.” Holding his trophy, Yoo shared his emotional journey, reflecting on his career that began with his first award in 2005. “Standing here with my 20th award feels surreal,” he said. “Winning this prize after 20 years means a lot to me.”
He expressed heartfelt gratitude to his family and the teams he works with, emphasizing the importance of laughter in the world. “I promise to continue bringing joy to everyone,” he added.
“Running Man,” now Korea’s longest-running variety show, also won the popular program award based on viewer votes. Yoo humorously compared the show to a classic car, saying, “We’re still running strong but need a bit more fuel and maintenance. I’m thankful to our amazing staff and cast for their hard work.”
Meanwhile, at the 2024 MBC Entertainment Awards, former announcer Jeon Hyun-moo received the grand prize. This is his third win at MBC, following victories in 2017 and 2022. In his speech, Jeon reminisced about idolizing entertainers like Yoo Jae-suk and shared his dream of making people laugh on screen. “This award shows the importance of sticking to your passion,” he said.
MBC’s show “Home Alone” had a fantastic night, winning numerous awards, including variety program of the year and best rookie. The show provides amusing and intimate looks into the lives of single celebrities, making it a favorite among viewers.
