TUCSON, Arizona – The UNT women’s golf team kicked off the 2026 MountainView Collegiate with a solid performance, shooting a remarkable 282 (-6). They currently sit in second place among 16 teams at the Preserve Golf Course.
Senior Malisone Chanthapanya stood out, finishing the first round with a score of 67 (-5), marking her second-best round this year. She’s tied for second place, just three strokes behind leader Alendra Vidal Rivera from Iowa State. Chanthapanya played exceptionally well, hitting birdies on three of her last four holes without a single bogey.
Her teammates, Bouqet Subsomboon and freshman Marin Fujiyasu, also made contributions by finishing the round at one-under par. North Texas is trailing Iowa State by nine strokes but holds a narrow one-stroke lead over UTSA.
The second round begins Saturday morning, with the tournament concluding on Sunday.
