MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama State’s softball team faced a tough challenge on Saturday, losing both games in a doubleheader against Florida A&M at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex. The first game went into extra innings, ending in a hard-fought 10-9 loss, while the second game resulted in a 6-0 shutout.
In the opener, Alabama State started strong, gaining a 4-0 lead bolstered by Alana Scott’s two-run homer. However, Florida A&M quickly responded, scoring five runs in the fourth inning and taking the lead. Alabama State tied it up in the eighth, thanks to Meshayla Pettaway’s thrilling RBI triple. Unfortunately, Florida A&M clinched the game in the 10th with a decisive run from an RBI single.
Kohana Pousson took the loss for Alabama State, while Florida A&M’s S. Smith celebrated a victory.
The second game saw Florida A&M seize control from the beginning, scoring three runs in the second inning. Alabama State couldn’t turn their nine hits into runs, leaving 10 runners stranded. Amanda Cintron was charged with the loss for Alabama State, while A. Brown from Florida A&M delivered a stellar complete-game shutout.
Despite setbacks, Alabama State showed promise with Brooke Ramsey achieving a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and Talee Sims contributing three hits.
