Exciting Partnership: Titagarh Rail Systems and BHEL Join Forces to Enhance Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Maintenance

Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains: A Just-Announced Partnership

Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) are teaming up in a new joint venture. Their goal? To maintain the upcoming Vande Bharat Sleeper trains. TRSL plans to finish the first set of train bodies by March 31. They aim to produce 80 sleeper trainsets, with each set having 16 coaches. This project is worth around ₹24,000 crores, and the maintenance agreement lasts for 35 years. They hope to launch the first train by late 2027.

On March 19, TRSL informed investors about the joint venture through an exchange filing. They mentioned that this move aligns with the Make-in-India initiative, which promotes local manufacturing. This plan is part of a broader effort by the Indian government to boost self-reliance.

BHEL also confirmed the partnership, stating they are working on finalizing their JV agreement. They expect clearances soon before the contract is officially signed.

Key Players in Manufacturing

The Indian Ministry of Railways has awarded contracts for these sleeper trains to three manufacturers. Besides TRSL and BHEL, BEML and Kinet Railway Solutions are also involved. The first Vande Bharat Sleeper train, running between Howrah and Kamakhya, was launched in January 2026 and was made using technology from Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory.

Why This Matters

The introduction of sleeper trains enhances long-distance travel in India. According to a recent report from the Indian Railways, train travel has surged by 20% over the past few years. Passengers increasingly prefer trains for their efficiency and comfort. The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are expected to cater to this growing demand.

Experts highlight that with Indian Railways investing heavily in modern infrastructure, the passenger experience will significantly improve. More comfortable travel options are stepping in to replace outdated models, aligning with global trends in transportation.

Social Media Buzz

Online platforms are buzzing with excitement about the new sleeper trains. Hashtags like #VandeBharatSleeper are trending, with travelers sharing their hopes and expectations. Many users express that these trains could redefine railway travel in India, emphasizing comfort, speed, and reliability.

In conclusion, the collaboration between TRSL and BHEL marks a promising step for the Indian railway system. The future looks bright for train travel in India as these developments unfold.
