Exciting News: Bryan Hodgson Takes the Helm as Providence Men’s Basketball Coach – A New Era for Providence College Athletics

Providence College Welcomes New Men’s Basketball Coach Bryan Hodgson

Providence College is excited to announce Bryan Hodgson as the new head coach for its men’s basketball team. He joins after a successful season at the University of South Florida, where he led the team to a remarkable 25-9 record and was named the American Conference Coach of the Year.

Fr. Kenneth Sicard, the college president, praised Hodgson for his commitment to developing student-athletes and aligning with the college’s values. He sees a bright future for the Friars under Hodgson’s leadership.

Hodgson’s record as a head coach stands out: in his three seasons, he has achieved a 70-37 win-loss record. His time at South Florida was historic; it was the first time the team won both the regular-season and conference tournament titles, securing an NCAA Tournament berth after a long dry spell. This season’s success included multiple player honors, showcasing the talent developed under his coaching.

Athletics Director Steve Napolillo expressed excitement about Hodgson’s approach to revitalizing the program. With 18 years of coaching experience, including notable stints at the University of Alabama, Hodgson brings a blend of energy and expertise. His focus on analytics and recruiting has already led him to significant wins in his career.

Before South Florida, Hodgson coached at Arkansas State, turning the team around from a struggling program to conference champions in just two years. This turnaround included their first postseason appearance since 1999. His efforts at Arkansas State garnered national attention, with a ranked offense making waves in the Sun Belt Conference.

Hodgson aims to establish a culture of toughness and discipline at Providence, drawing on his experiences from working under successful coaches and developing talent that reaches the professional level. Throughout his career, he’s coached players who went on to the NBA, contributing to his reputation as a developer of talent.

A western New York native, Hodgson’s journey includes personal experiences that fuel his passion for mentoring. He founded a nonprofit, Coaching Love Inc., to support at-risk youth, particularly those in the foster care system. With a commitment to community and mentorship, Hodgson brings a holistic approach to his coaching.

As fans gather for his introduction at the press conference, the excitement for a new era in Friar basketball is palpable. Hodgson’s vision aligns with the college’s ambitious goals, promising a fresh season of competitive and engaging basketball.

Through his past experiences and community engagement, Hodgson is set to build a strong and proud program at Providence. His journey reflects a commitment not only to winning games but also to shaping the lives of young athletes.
