After two seasons at Siena, McNamara is now in talks with Syracuse athletic director Bryan Blair. Blair has met with him several times over the past week, both online and in person. In his time at Syracuse, McNamara was a star player, holding records for the most three-pointers and minutes played. He also earned All-Big East honors three times. Following his playing career, he returned as a graduate assistant and then became an assistant coach under Jim Boeheim. After Boeheim’s retirement, McNamara was promoted to associate head coach.
Siena’s McNamara finished with a 37-30 record in two seasons. He will take over from Adrian Autry, who was let go after failing to lead the Orange to the NCAA tournament in his three years. Autry ended his tenure with a record of 49-48, including two consecutive losing seasons—a first for Syracuse since the late 1960s.
