Joshua Newman Selected as Final Candidate for Dean of KU’s Education School
Joshua Newman, an associate dean and professor at Florida State University, is in the running to become the new dean of the University of Kansas (KU) School of Education & Human Sciences. Newman leads research initiatives at FSU, overseeing an impressive $84 million in research funding. His work has significantly boosted the college’s research expenditures from $17 million just five years ago. Under his leadership, the submission of external grant proposals increased by over 400%. He’s also launched innovative programs aimed at enhancing research efforts.
With a background in media and cultural studies in sport management, Newman has directed FSU’s sport management doctoral program and the Center for Sport, Health, and Equitable Development. He’s not only a respected fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology but also a former president of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport.
Newman holds a doctorate in kinesiology from the University of Maryland and has degrees in sport and leisure commerce and sport and leisure studies from the University of Memphis.
