LaGuardia Airport in New York faced a tragic incident late Sunday night. A Port Authority vehicle collided with an Air Canada regional flight, resulting in the deaths of the pilot and co-pilot, along with injuries to over a dozen others.
The plane, operated by Jazz Aviation, was traveling from Montreal. Firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after the incident at 11:38 p.m. Photos showed serious damage to the aircraft’s cockpit, with debris scattered around.
Passengers described the chaos. “One of our friends was trying to find his glasses after getting hurt,” shared one traveler. “A lot of people hit their heads on the seats in front of them.”
Initial data indicates the Air Canada plane was traveling between 93 and 105 mph when it collided with the fire truck, which was responding to a report of an odor on a nearby United flight. Air traffic control had given the vehicle clearance but warned it to stop just before the impact.
