OKMULGEE, OKLA. (KTUL) — The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) is looking into reports of abuse at Okmulgee High School.
These allegations come from multiple incidents submitted through the Awareity reporting system, a tool that allows concerned individuals to flag safety concerns in schools.
State Superintendent Ryan Walters expressed his concern, stating, “I am deeply troubled by the allegations at Okmulgee High School. We take this very seriously and are reviewing the claims closely. Protecting our students is our top priority. We are committed to ensuring that schools have the resources and training needed to handle these issues effectively. Any failure to report misconduct will not be tolerated.”
OSDE encourages anyone with worries about safety or well-being in Oklahoma schools to reach out through the reporting system. This initiative is designed to keep students safe and hold accountable those who engage in harmful behavior.
Meanwhile, the Okmulgee Board of Education has scheduled a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday to discuss the resignation of Superintendent Clay Vinyard as the investigation unfolds.
