In a letter sent to the IRCTC Chairman, the Railway Board highlighted the seriousness of the complaint. They noted that the presence of a worm signifies a lack of adequate supervision over food quality. The board emphasizes the importance of maintaining safety and hygiene for passengers.
As a consequence, the Railway Board announced a hefty fine of ₹10 lakh on IRCTC due to these service deficiencies. They also instructed IRCTC to enhance their monitoring of onboard services to prevent such incidents in the future. The letter explicitly pointed out that ensuring food safety and hygiene is essential.
Moreover, the service provider responsible for the onboard meals was fined ₹50 lakh, and their contract with IRCTC was terminated. The board remarked that this situation reflected a serious failure in maintaining proper food standards for passengers.
