SPAR Gran Canaria is stepping up its commitment to sustainability by participating in Earth Hour for the seventh year in a row. This global event, happening on March 28, marks its 20th anniversary. To join in, SPAR will partially turn off its lights in all its stores and three main logistics centers.
This action isn’t just symbolic. It aims to spark conversations about environmental protection among employees, customers, and the broader community. Lights will be switched off from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, covering store areas, outside signs, and the LED displays of its logistics centers in El Goro and Mercalaspalmas.
SPAR Gran Canaria is dedicated to sustainable practices that align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. The company has been taking tangible steps, such as using renewable energy, reducing food waste, improving energy efficiency, and promoting recycling. They are also investing in sustainable transport solutions, including electric vehicle charging stations.
To engage its team further, SPAR Gran Canaria is hosting two creative initiatives for Earth Hour. One is the “Light that Inspires” art competition, inviting staff to explore nature through photography, painting, and creative writing. The other encourages store staff to capture the moment when the lights go out, reinforcing the spirit of the event.
These efforts showcase SPAR Gran Canaria’s commitment to fostering a greener future for the island and its residents.
