A man from Michigan turned a simple $20 win into an astonishing $1 million. It all started during a late-night visit to a local gas station.
The 31-year-old, who wishes to remain anonymous, stopped at a Wesco station in Kent County just to cash in his small winning Lottery ticket. He never expected that this visit would change his life.
After cashing his winning ticket, he had $20 in hand. Instead of pocketing all of it, he took a gamble. “I kept $10 and bought one Electric 100s ticket,” he shared.
That decision led to a thrilling moment. As he scratched off the ticket in the store, he screamed when he realized he won $1 million. “It’s a good thing no one else was there, or they might have thought I was losing it!” he joked.
His winning ticket was from a Wesco station in Cedar Springs, just north of Grand Rapids. It just goes to show that luck can find you in the most unexpected places.
He claimed his prize at the Michigan Lottery headquarters, opting for a lump sum of about $693,000, instead of taking annuity payments. What’s next for this new millionaire? A new car and saving the rest of his winnings. “Winning $1 million is life-changing and means I can do what I want,” he said thoughtfully.
But Michigan wasn’t the only state with lucky lottery winners recently. In South Carolina, a woman struck gold with a $200,000 scratch-off ticket. She bought four $5 tickets in a single day, breaking even on the first two and winning $5 on the third ticket. Then came the big surprise on the fourth ticket – the My Money Maker jackpot. This was the last jackpot available for that game, making it even sweeter!
“It was exciting,” she told officials from the South Carolina Education Lottery. After realizing her win, she rushed back into the store to share the good news, while staff members cheered her on. The store also earned a $2,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.
With a one-in-9,000 chance of hitting that jackpot, she plans to invest her winnings in a new home. “I still can’t believe it,” she admitted.
