Tiger Woods Arrested on DUI Charges
JUPITER ISLAND, Fla. (AP) — Tiger Woods was arrested Friday after his Land Rover crashed while driving. The vehicle hit a truck and rolled over. Woods was suspected of driving under the influence.
According to local authorities, Woods was speeding on a residential road when the accident occurred. Sheriff John Budensiek mentioned that Woods appeared lethargic and agreed to a Breathalyzer test, which showed no alcohol in his system. However, he declined a urine test. Woods spent at least eight hours in jail before being released on bail.
Interestingly, this isn’t Woods’ first run-in with the law regarding intoxication. In 2017, he was found asleep behind the wheel, leading to a guilty plea for reckless driving. He reported mixing pain medications at the time.
The crash happened around 2 p.m., close to Woods’ home. While driving, he attempted to pass a pressure cleaner truck, hitting its trailer and causing his vehicle to flip onto its side. Fortunately, Woods wasn’t hurt. He crawled out of the car and was described as cooperative by the police, though he didn’t want to incriminate himself.
This incident is the fourth car crash for Woods. His most recent major accident occurred in February 2021, when he crashed in Los Angeles and suffered severe leg injuries. He had been recovering from multiple surgeries and was recently getting back into golf.
Woods has shown incredible resilience in his career. He famously won the Masters in 2019, marking his 15th major title. However, since his last significant crash, he has struggled to find form, participating in 11 tournaments but not finishing close to the top.
As Woods navigates these challenges, he’s also faced with important decisions. He’s considering whether he’s fit enough to participate in the upcoming Masters on April 9. He was set to reveal a new golf course project shortly before. Additionally, there are whispers about his potential role as the U.S. Ryder Cup captain for the 2027 matches.
Woods, now 50, has been working hard to return to the sport after undergoing yet another surgery. His last official tournament was the British Open in 2024, and he recently ruptured his Achilles tendon, which kept him off the course. Despite the setbacks, he’s still active in golf, participating in an indoor league and contributing to the PGA Tour as chair of the Future Competition Committee.
