The Elite Eight is here, and excitement is in the air as teams head to the Final Four in Indianapolis.
First up, No. 9 Iowa made a stunning comeback against Nebraska. After falling behind early, they powered through with a big late-game run. A major mistake by Nebraska allowed Iowa to capitalize and secure their first Elite Eight spot since 1987. They’ll face No. 3 Illinois, who recently outlasted No. 2 Houston with a 65-55 victory. In San Jose, No. 2 Purdue had a nail-biting finish against Texas. Trey Kaufman-Renn scored the winning basket with less than a second left on the clock, leading Purdue to a 79-77 triumph. This win adds to Purdue’s impressive record of 10 NCAA tournament victories over the last three seasons, including their run to the title game in 2024. Purdue will now challenge No. 1 Arizona, who breezed past No. 4 Arkansas in their Sweet 16 matchup.
Meanwhile, UConn faced off against Michigan State and came out on top in a thriller. Despite a late scare, they held their ground and will meet Duke in the Elite Eight. Duke also had a tight game, edging out St. John’s with help from coach Rick Pitino.
In Chicago, top-seeded Michigan easily defeated Alabama 90-77, thanks to a standout performance by Yaxel Lendeborg, who racked up 23 points and 12 rebounds. Michigan will be up against Tennessee, who pulled away from a short-handed Iowa State.
