New Delhi: Twenty Indian-flagged vessels with 540 seafarers are currently in the western Persian Gulf. The Indian government is closely monitoring their safety. According to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, all seafarers are reported safe, and there have been no incidents involving Indian vessels in the past 24 hours.
The Directorate General of Shipping is working alongside ship owners and maritime agencies to ensure the wellbeing of these seafarers. Recently, over 938 Indian crew members have been repatriated, including 25 in the last day. Meanwhile, port operations in India are running smoothly, with no congestion reported.
Various state maritime boards, including those in Gujarat and Maharashtra, confirm that everything is functioning normally. The government is in constant communication with the Ministry of External Affairs and other maritime stakeholders to maintain seafarer welfare and ensure smooth operations.
Since February 28, nearly 497,000 Indians have returned home from the region affected by conflict. The Ministry of External Affairs continues to stay in touch with the Indian community abroad, providing advice and assistance for their safety.
Geopolitical tensions in the area are affecting maritime traffic, but two more merchant vessels carrying oil for India are expected to pass through the Strait of Hormuz soon. The Indian Navy has deployed warships to key ports to assist as needed.
