AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas Men’s Tennis team clinched a tough 6-3 win over LeTourneau, demonstrating their strength in singles matches.
In doubles, the Tornados shone brightly, taking the early lead by winning on courts one and three. Daniel Beckles and Rowan Daniell outlasted their opponents with a close 7-5 win at No. 1. Meanwhile, Jake Riggs and Steven Scholz added a solid 6-3 victory at No. 3. Despite LeTourneau taking the No. 2 doubles match, Concordia secured a 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.
Singles action saw Concordia continue their strong performance, winning four of six matches overall. Beckles dominated at No. 2 with a clean 6-2, 7-5 win. Kade Talbot joined him with another strong straight-set victory at No. 4 (7-5, 6-1). One of the day’s highlights was Scholz’s thrilling match at No. 1. After losing the first set, he rallied to win 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7). Aaron Griffin also fought hard at No. 3, winning in three sets, 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 6-1.
In tennis, the ability to perform under pressure is crucial. A study from the Journal of Sports Psychology reveals that mental toughness can often be the deciding factor in matches. This was evident in Scholz’s comeback. A good mental game can be as important as physical skill in this sport.
Looking ahead, Concordia Texas will face Schreiner University at home on April 10th. The match starts at 2 PM.
