Recently, 21 nursing students from Korea visited Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) as part of the University of Guam’s English Adventure Program. This visit showcases Guam’s growing position in global education and healthcare.
Among the students were seven attendees from Dankook University and 14 from Baekseok University. Their time in Guam allowed them to learn about the local hospital system, experience the healthcare environment, and engage in cultural exchanges.
Dr. Joleen M. Aguon, interim Administrator and CEO of GMH, emphasized the significance of these partnerships. She stated, “When students come to Guam to learn, it shows that our work extends beyond our walls. GMH is dedicated to opportunities that promote learning and nursing’s future.”
The English Adventure Program immerses international students in language learning while connecting them to various community services. Carlos Taitano, director of Global Learning and Engagement at UOG, noted, “Programs like this help students enhance their language skills and understand Guam’s healthcare system better.”
Partnerships like these not only benefit students but also strengthen community ties. In recent years, educational tourism has surged, with global markets predicting growth. According to a 2022 report by the Global Educational Tourism Association, the sector could expand by nearly 25% over the next decade. This trend reflects a rising interest in unique learning experiences, particularly in healthcare.
The presence of overseas students highlights how Guam is growing as a hub for global learning. As healthcare needs evolve, incorporating international perspectives into local training can foster more comprehensive care approaches. GMH continues to express gratitude to UOG and the participating universities for creating valuable opportunities in education and health.
