U.S. Rep. Scott Franklin from Lakeland, Florida, is taking the lead as the chair of the House Environment Subcommittee. His appointment comes from Brian Babin, the chair of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee. Babin selected Franklin because of his knowledge and the crucial role this subcommittee plays for Florida.
Babin expressed enthusiasm about the committee’s goals for the upcoming Congress, emphasizing the expertise and diverse experiences its members bring. He mentioned that they will focus on boosting the U.S. position in science, technology, and space exploration while addressing important regulatory challenges.
Franklin is looking forward to his new role. He aims to focus on environmental research, particularly in weather forecasting and disaster preparedness. “I appreciate Chairman Babin for this opportunity and look forward to pushing policies that boost innovation and job creation,” he stated.
Babin also highlighted Franklin’s solid conservative stance on business issues, assuring that Franklin’s leadership will be vital for the Environment Subcommittee. He praised Franklin’s commitment to combating burdensome regulations, which he believes hinder innovation and fail to meet state needs. Together, they plan to consider significant weather legislation in the near future.
On the same day, Babin assigned Mike Haridopolos, another Florida Republican from Indian Harbor Beach, to lead the House Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee. Haridopolos spoke about Florida’s historical significance in space exploration and its vital role in the economy, providing numerous high-paying jobs.
Babin commended Haridopolos for his expertise in space efforts. He believes Haridopolos’ knowledge will strengthen the committee’s work in advancing America’s space initiatives. Both Franklin and Haridopolos are set to play key roles in shaping science and technology policies that will impact Florida and the nation.
