GREENVILLE, TX (March 30, 2026) — On March 25, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints delivered over 31,000 pounds of food to local partners: Hunt County Shared Ministries (FISH) and Neighbors Nourishing Neighbors. This generous donation is crucial for the community’s fight against food insecurity.
The delivery included essentials like applesauce, peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, pasta, pancake mix, beans, flour, oats, and canned fruits. These items are not regularly available, making them a special treat for families in need.
Adam Beene, Interim Director of Hunt County Shared Ministries, expressed excitement about the donation. “These are items that we do not get on a regular basis, so this is fresh and exciting, and people get to be blessed by it,” he said.
Hunt County Shared Ministries and Neighbors Nourishing Neighbors serve over 28,000 individuals each year. They provide consistent access to groceries and essential supplies. Large donations like this help keep their shelves stocked and ensure services continue without interruption.
The Church collaborates with organizations across the country to provide food and resources. Their mission focuses on alleviating hunger and promoting self-reliance while treating everyone with respect.
Jill Stillman, Operations Manager of Neighbors Nourishing Neighbors, highlighted the importance of their service. “We have over 230 families that we help, and they are so gracious. They love that they can shop here as if it were a grocery store. We give them dignity, nourishment, and hope,” she shared.
Local volunteers are key to this effort, assisting in the shipment and distribution of food. Richard Stolworthy, a local volunteer, remarked, “It’s great to witness the collaboration between organizations. It’s what the Lord wants us to do—to come together to help those in need.”
Food insecurity affects a significant number of families in the U.S. According to recent statistics from the USDA, about 10.5% of American households experienced food insecurity in 2022. Collaborations like this one are crucial in bridging the gap and supporting those who struggle to put food on the table.
The ongoing challenge of food insecurity makes it essential for community members to get involved, whether through donations or volunteer efforts. Every bit helps to uplift those in need.
