Cardinal Health Honored by Industry Leaders for Excellence in Supplier Transparency and Resilience

Cardinal Health recently earned top honors for its efforts in supplier transparency and supply chain resilience from the Healthcare Industry Resilience Collaborative (HIRC). This recognition comes from nominations submitted by healthcare providers, acknowledging Cardinal Health’s focus on responsible and reliable practices that enhance the healthcare supply chain.

According to Jesse Schafer, HIRC’s executive director, many customers noted Cardinal Health’s proactive information sharing. This approach helps identify risks early, improves planning, and fosters collaboration across the healthcare supply chain. He emphasized that these practices are vital for maintaining patient care.

Pete Bennett, senior vice president of global supply chain for the Global Medical Products and Distribution (GMPD) business, expressed appreciation for the recognition. He attributed it to the strong teamwork at Cardinal Health, which is committed to protecting patient care throughout the supply chain.

Customers highlighted the importance of transparency and timely communication in their nominations. For instance, Andrea Poulopoulos from Corewell Health praised Cardinal Health’s proactive planning. She noted that their team actively participates in weekly meetings to anticipate and manage backorders before they affect patient care. This kind of planning is crucial, especially amid global uncertainties like geopolitical events.

In fact, during hurricane seasons, Cardinal Health has been commended for its clear communication regarding its storm readiness. Poulopoulos remarked on how their detailed updates and action plans help ensure that critical information reaches the healthcare teams before potential disruptions occur.

Since partnering with HIRC in 2023, Cardinal Health has been at the forefront of supply chain transparency. They were the first healthcare distributor to receive the esteemed HIRC’s Resiliency Badge with a Diamond-level rating, which recognizes excellence in logistics and risk management. Most recently, they also won the 2025 HIRC Transparency Badge and additional accolades for their medical products.

As Jeff Porubcansky from Cardinal Health noted, open communication and early action are crucial during times of global logistics challenges. The commendations highlight the importance of strong customer relationships and the ongoing commitment to delivering reliable medical products.

In a world where supply chains are under increasing stress, Cardinal Health’s achievements reflect not just a commitment to service but also the growing need for transparency in healthcare logistics. This focus helps ensure that healthcare providers can continue to deliver quality care to patients without unnecessary disruptions.
